Religious Trauma Therapy in California
I provide psychotherapy for religious trauma to clients located in California. If you are dealing with the psychological aftermath of a high-control religion, spiritual abuse, purity culture, or a faith transition, therapy gives you a clinical setting in which to work through it.
Sessions are held by telehealth, so you can meet from anywhere in the state.
What therapy can address
As a clinician I can work with the full range of mental health concerns that accompany religious trauma — anxiety, depression, PTSD and complex trauma, intrusive religious thoughts, sexual shame and difficulty with intimacy, grief, family and relationship conflict, and questions of identity and purpose.
This is the substantive difference between therapy and coaching. Therapy is not confined to the religious material. It can address whatever else is happening in your mental health at the same time.
How we work
I use an embodied, present-moment approach to help you process trauma and unresolved emotional wounds in the body and mind, combined with directly examining the teachings and indoctrination that continue to affect you. Rather than forcing through pain, we work with your fears and inner resistance from a place of calm, curious attention.
Training and supervision
I am trained in Internal Family Systems (IFS Level 2) and EMDR, mindfulness, relational psychodynamic depth work, and CBT. I hold an MDiv from Princeton Seminary, an MPhil from Oxford in Indian contemplative studies, and an MA in Counseling Psychology.
I practise as a Registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT 146397) at Q Psychology Group, supervised by Dr. Crystal Quarry, a licensed psychologist.
Therapy is available only to clients physically located in California, because psychotherapy is licensed at state level. If you are outside California, coaching is the route open to us — see Religious Trauma and Deconstruction Coaching.
